A thorough examination of the arguments against Roman Catholicism, though not particularly groundbreaking.

Lugger’s nonfiction work presents a theological case against the Roman Catholic Church. He begins by asking the age-old question: who is considered lost in the eyes of Jesus? The author, a former Lutheran, suggests that this could include members of any denomination. This first volume of a five-part series focuses on the Roman Catholic Church, and argues that many of its core beliefs are not supported by Scripture. Lugger points out that many of the Church’s practices, such as the veneration of Mary, the use of holy water, and the doctrine of purgatory, were developed centuries after Jesus’ time on Earth.
He also takes issue with the Catholic belief in tradition in addition to scriptural authority. The book’s main argument is based on interpretations of Scripture and a theological approach that does not align with the author’s view of sola Scriptura. Despite its 19 pages of bibliographic and reference citations, the book is essentially a reiteration of the same arguments against Catholicism that were made during the Protestant Revolution. While it is thorough in its critique, it does not offer anything new.
