Sara Aurorae

Sarah has had a difficult life, with her father being violent and abusive and her romantic interests not being great. When she gets a promotion at a corporate call center, she is wary of her co-worker Kieran, who, along with another employee, ostracizes her. However, when Kieran suddenly becomes friendly, Sarah starts to develop feelings for him. Unfortunately, Kieran changes again and begins to bully Sarah, insulting her and spreading rumors.

Mental Health

Even after Sarah leaves the call center, Kieran appears to stalk her. In Aurorae’s novel, the devastating and long-lasting effects of workplace intimidation are explored. Sarah suffers from mental anguish and physical pain, such as weight loss and chest pain. The author also delves into Sarah’s past, where she felt out of place with her Turkish family and at school. Kieran is also explored, with the author describing him as having “trouble expressing himself,” which is a euphemism for the animosity that fuels most bullies. Other characters, such as Sarah’s best friend Aylin and her friend/co-worker Noah, are not explored as much as Sarah and Kieran, but they are still memorable. The story also teases an accident that Sarah is involved in early on. All of this is told through the author’s crisp prose, which moves fluidly between the present day and Sarah’s past.
